First Haircut

After a particularly hot & sweaty afternoon nap last week, Hayden's hair was resembling the Nick Nolte mug shot, and we decided it was finally time for Hayden's First Haircut.

We took him to a kid-friendly salon in Crossroads Mall called Common Folk Kids Salon. Their barber seats are modified ride-on race cars and fire trucks and they have little bins of fun toys to help distract squirmy toddlers. Hayden liked the red fire truck, but started freaking out when we put him in it, so we decided a better option this time would be for him to sit in my lap.

During:

He was so thrilled with the little bin of Matchbox cars and Thomas trains that he barely noticed the stylist wetting down and cutting his hair.

I was pleasantly surprised that we didn't have a meltdown like he does at the doctor's and dentist's office. Normally, he doesn't really like strangers poking around on him with strange instruments. When the stylist wanted to clean up around the ears and back with the clippers, she spent a lot of time showing the clippers to Hayden, letting him touch them and help her turn them on so he wouldn't be afraid. But the minute she started going around his ear, I think the noise was too scary and Hayden started crying and squirming all over. We decided the scissors did a good enough job and we could try the clippers again at his next haircut. Don't want to traumatize him.

No clippers!

The haircut was pricey, but I think worth it to have a good first experience. The stylist was great and his hair looks fantastic! We also got a keepsake photo card with some locks of his hair in a secure plastic envelope.

This last shot makes me think of those model poses you see in the salon magazines! Isn't he a handsome young man now? :)

That last shot is a total Blue Steel look!

So glad to hear that it went well. Adam and I were both thinking about how Jude's first cut went... meltdown! Isn't it fun to see them looking more grown up?

Har Har. Hayden was TOTALLY starting to resemble a washed-up 60 year old actor turned criminal! Now he looks as cute as the law-abiding citizen he is.
